Thirteen artists will explore the residue of urban change from the lowest point at the bottom of the Gowanus Canal to the highest site lines of impending high rises. Paintings, photographs and 3D work will address sediment as a human and ecological repository of what rises above. As sediment sinks downward, settling at the lowest point, it can reveal both toxic and fertile aspects of who we are.  As Above, So Below is curated by Sasha Chavchavadze, artist and founder of Proteus Gowanus, an exhibition and event space that was a cultural hub in Gowanus for ten years.
